Where is the capital of the nation?

The Capital of the Maldives is Male’ pronounced “Ma-ley”. The population is about 70,000 and is home for almost one-forth of the total population of the country. This is the base for all the economic activities. The city also has a few places of historical interest.

Are there regular flights in and out of the Maldives?

Being one of the world’s best holiday destination, most major carriers have regularly scheduled flights from top cities in different continents like Singapore Airlines, Emirates, Qatar Airways, Malaysian Airlines, etc

What kind of outlet (electric) is used in the Maldives?

Most, if not all, sockets use standard UK 3 pin flat plugs. The electrical current is 220 – 240 volts. Resorts will usually have adaptors available but it would be good to notify ahead of time as well by informing your Destination Specialist.

Will there be wifi at the resort? how about in my room/villa?

Most 5* properties have free WiFi in public areas and in the accommodations. Other properties charge for it and have internet cards available for sale at the resort. Feel free to ask your Destination Specialist to verify for you.

Can i bring my PET?

No, unfortunately, your furry little pals are not allowed in the Maldives.

How long is the wait time for transfers?

As much as possible, your resort will whisk you right away to their island as soon as you land but depending on the proximity of your chosen property there may be some waiting time involved. Speedboat transfers are the best option for people who have no time to waste or are on shorter vacation days since they have their own transfers that can get you – depending on guest arrivals, there might be a wait time of 20 – 30 minutes, but that rarely happens. Seaplane transfers may have a wait time of up to an hour depending on arrivals as well since they group guests going to certain atolls together based on their international flight arrival or departure.

Can I bring ALCOHOL?

Alcohol is prohibited in Maldives and you can only purchase and consume it within the premises of the resorts that have acquired permits for sale/consumption of alcohol.

Cellular service for tourists

Most of the resorts in Maldives enjoy uninterrupted mobile network connectivity. Dhiraagu is one of the key network providers in Maldives, and SIM cards can be purchased at the airport.

Tipping

Most of the food and beverage outlets add a service charge in the final bill, so tipping is not necessary. However, small tips for good service are always appreciated.

Custom visa

To enter Maldives no pre-arrival visa is required.

Maldives is a SAARC country and therefore there is a special agreement to allow easy travel. Visa is issued on arrival at Male Airport for a 30 day stay- Visa is gratis. The traveller must hold a passport valid for at least six months, confirmed onward/return air ticket, onward country visa and have enough funds to cover the expenses for duration of the stay in Maldives (US$100 + $50 dollars per day) or a confirmation of reservation in a tourist resort or a hotel.

Full thirty day visa is not a right of the passenger to claim, but lies at the discretion of the Immigration to issue not more than thirty days and any period less than thirty days.

Safety
